Poplar Bark Baskets

A Sampling of Poplar Bark Baskets

By Sarah Minick

Poplar and hickory bark sustainably hand-gathered by Jim and Sarah on their farm.

Old-timers created these traditional, Appalachian baskets when they discovered a patch of huckleberries. They made bark baskets to carry their harvest home, so these vessels are often called huckleberry baskets.
